The Children's Blizzard
by David Laskin
thumbs up
This book was a little dry in some places, but the overall book was pretty interesting to read. It tells of a crazy winter storm in 1888 that brought such a terrible blizzard, and brought the blizzard so abruptly during a warm day that children were caught in it as they walked home from school.
Being an unusually warm day, some kids skipped hats and mittens and even coats, so when the blizzard hit, they froze to death. The snow was so small it blew threw the cloth and got inside peoples' clothing. The snow and freezing wind also froze together eyelids and they were only opened by cutting the skin. Crazy.
